During the international Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Rome, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and the Ukrainian Reconstruction Consortium signed a Memorandum of Partnership aimed at the restoration and development of Ukraine’s port industry.
The key benefits of the agreement include attracting leading Italian and European companies to port reconstructions, establishing “smart” port systems with automated cargo handling, integrating Ukrainian ports into the European TEN-T transport network, facilitating access to financing from institutions such as the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, and European funds, as well as developing partnerships with European ports and implementing environmentally friendly technologies.
The memorandum outlines several priority areas for cooperation, including: implementation of international standards and advanced technologies, joint infrastructure projects, building partnerships between Ukrainian and Italian ports, financial and technical cooperation, development of innovative green transportation solutions, supporting sustainable recovery of the port sector, advisory services on enhancing and aligning Ukraine’s maritime legislation with EU, IMO, and UNCTAD standards, exchange of best practices.“We highly value the opportunity to combine Ukraine’s port industry experience with European technologies and financial tools. This partnership creates new opportunities for the modernisation of our port infrastructure and deeper integration into Europe’s logistics framework. I am confident that this format of cooperation will serve as an effective instrument for the sector’s reconstruction and growth,” stated Oleksandr Semyrga, Head of USPA.
