Foreign Ministers of Germany and Ukraine Visit Odesa Sea Port

Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Johann Wadephul, accompanied by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, visited the Odesa Sea Port. During the visit, the ministers examined operations of the Ukrainian Corridor, active since August 2023. Oleksandr Semyrga, Head of the SE “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”, briefed the visitors on the corridor’s achievements, wartime challenges, and the restoration of logistics routes.

“Since its launch, the Ukrainian Corridor has processed nearly 5,000 vessels, handling over 130 million tonnes of cargo, including more than 80 million tonnes of grain. Port infrastructure remains under continuous enemy attacks – shelling occurs on a weekly basis. Nonetheless, every port worker fully understands the importance of their role and the vital contribution Ukrainian ports make to global food and logistical security,” stated Oleksandr Semyrga. The ministers also inspected the Odesa Maritime Station, damaged by a russian missile strike in September 2023. Oleksandr Semyrga highlighted the systematic nature of these attacks, noting that since July 2023 alone, over 80 strikes have targeted port infrastructure facilities in the Odesa region.
