On Ukraine’s Flag Day, Seaports Join the “Flag of Hope” Commemoration Initiative

On the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine, seaports in Izmail, Odesa, Pivdennyi, Reni, and Chornomorsk raised black and white flags alongside blue and yellow ones. These are the Flags of Hope – a symbol of unity, faith in the return of Ukrainian defenders held in captivity or missing in action, and remembrance of those who perished in captivity.

The initiative was launched by Hero of Ukraine and defender of Mariupol, Serhii Volynskyi.

“Ports are places where the strength and resilience of Ukrainians are demonstrated every day. Some of our colleagues are now defending the country at the front, while others keep port operations running at the rear. By raising the Flags of Hope, we once again declare: we remember every warrior, we await their return home, and we are doing everything possible for Ukraine’s victory,” emphasised Head of the USPA Oleksandr Semyrga.

“Each black and white flag is the voice of those who are not with us today. It symbolises our faith in the return of all prisoners and the missing persons. We will not allow the world to forget them, because our struggle is not only for freedom, but also for the lives of every Ukrainian who must return home. Today we also thank the seaports for their involvement and support!” said Hero of Ukraine Serhii Volynskyi.

The “Flag of Hope” is not a one-time campaign. The initiative is intended to serve as a constant reminder in Ukraine and worldwide: prisoners must return home, and the fight for their release continues.Special thanks to the Charitable Foundation Stalevi (@Сталеві) for supporting the initiative.
