A trilateral meeting between representatives of Ukraine, Romania and the European Commission took place in Galati as part of the ‘Solidarity Lanes’ initiative. The event, held in a hybrid format, aimed to strengthen cooperation in the Danube region and coordinating efforts to develop transport infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”, Oleksandr Semyrga and his Deputy, Vyacheslav Kharkavenko, Director General of the Lower Danube Administration, Angela Stela Ivan, representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Transport, the Danube Commission, and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, led by Alan Baron. Representatives of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania joined the discussion online.
The participants agreed to improve the PRIMUS information platform to optimise data exchange between the port authorities of Ukraine and Romania, as well as to deepen cooperation in the field of navigational safety and the development of the region’s logistics potential. In addition, the parties confirmed their intention to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding, which will form the basis for strengthening regional partnership.
“The Danube ports have become Ukraine’s key logistical gateway to Europe. That is why it is important to develop and strengthen systematic, transparent and technological cooperation with Romanian and European partners right now,” said Oleksandr Semyrga, Head of the SE “USPA”.The meeting in Galati confirmed the parties’ shared commitment to further strengthening logistics links and integrating the transport networks of Ukraine and the EU — an effort that is especially vital in the context of the ongoing war and for the future economic recovery of the region. These initiatives are becoming even more relevant in view of Ukraine’s future accession to the European Union.
