The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
The Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority manages the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone. Trieste is one of Italy’s largest cargo ports, playing a key role in Europe’s TEN-T transport network, actively implementing digital solutions, and featuring deep-water infrastructure.
The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority encompasses the ports of Genoa, Savona, Pra’, and Vado Ligure. It is one of Italy’s leading port clusters, undertaking major infrastructure projects, implementing green and digital technologies, developing intermodal connections, and possessing extensive experience in public-private partnerships.
The signed memoranda envisage long-term partnership development, exchange of best practices, support for the digital transformation of Ukrainian ports, and enhanced integration into Europe’s logistics network.
Key areas of cooperation include:
- Development of new logistics routes;
- Implementation of digital solutions and innovative logistics systems at ports;
- Enhancement of maritime safety standards and protection of critical infrastructure during wartime;
- Implementation of public-private partnership projects and investment attraction;
- Ecological modernisation of port infrastructure;
- Training, internships, and professional exchanges between specialists.
“It is essential for us not merely to exchange experiences, but to swiftly adopt and implement best international practices today. A full-scale war leaves no time for slow reforms. We must simultaneously protect and modernise our critical infrastructure. These memoranda open new opportunities for digitalisation, introduction of advanced logistics solutions, and adapting ports to new challenges. This represents another step towards integration into Europe’s logistics space – through concrete cooperation, knowledge transfer, and investments,” stated Oleksandr Semyrga, Head of SE USPA
